About the Wine

Tenuta Tre Gemme sits in Abruzzo's Terra dei Vestini, one of the DOC's most prestigious sub-zones—halfway between the Adriatic coast and Mount Gran Sasso at 350 to 450 meters elevation.

Founded in the 1960s by Rocco Perrucci, the estate was revitalized by his daughters, Carla and Anna, in 2020.

Today it's one of the largest private wineries in Abruzzo, entirely certified organic.

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is Italy's workhorse red done right—mountain fruit with grip, dark berry depth, and the kind of structure that makes it punch well above its weight class.

When it's grown organically at elevation and handled with precision, it's the wine that makes Chianti drinkers jealous.

The 2023 has a tenacity that keeps coming back for more. Purple-hued and deeply complex with inviting aromas of black raspberries, cloves, dried sage, and licorice.

Juicy acidity drives sour cherries and wild berries over a tactile mineral core. The finish is long and pleasantly staining with sour berry inflection and edgy tannins.

Tasting Notes

100% Montepulciano from estate fruit in the Terra dei Vestini.

Deep ruby. Dark cherry and plum on the nose, with black pepper, elderflower and a note of forest floor.

Medium-full and round on the palate, soft-tannined and fresh, with the fruit doing all the work — no oak involved.

Macerated roughly two weeks on the skins, then aged in steel and underground concrete. Serve at 61–64°F.
