About the Wine
Oh, Chianti! We all love this place. I mean, is there anything more enchanting and artistic than this Tuscan charming hill-covered region? This is a place loaded with history, art, legends, stunning landscapes, and delectable wines. This appellation produces what James Suckling said, “some of the finest wines in Italy and the world.” And, one of the best-known and most appreciated wines in the world is Chianti Classico.
This first-class region also produces the most anarchist (and delicious) wine in Tuscany, the ultra-famous Super Tuscans. Super Tuscans are revolutionary wines, wines that are not following the traditional winemaking in the region’s DOC and DOCG. Instead of using the classic grape of the region, Sangiovese, these wines are mainly made with grapes used for Bordeaux Blends, Cabernet Sauvignon, and/or Merlot.
Rubereto is a Super Tuscan through and through. The heavy blending of Sangiovese with Cabernet gives this wine plenty of Tuscan character that is simply bolstered and elevated by the presence of Bordeaux's top varieties.
When it comes to high-quality, top Tuscan wines, Tenuta Orsumella is at the top of its game. This beautiful 200-acre family-owned winery is run by the 3rd generation of the Menichetti family, a charming Italian family that is completely committed to producing high-quality wines. They take care of every aspect of the game, from the vineyard (which is managed under sustainable and organic practices, and BIO certified since 2018,) they handpick and carefully select all the grapes. Menichetti's main goal is to create high-quality wines that truly represent the outstanding terroir of their land.
2020 is looking to be a great year for Chianti Classico. Vinous Media gave this vintage a 92-95 point review, stating that " the 2020s are rich, sumptuous wines. The best of these wines show terrific depth, gorgeous purity of fruit, and fully ripe tannins."
Aging: 18 months in French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese. Aromatic complexity where fruity and spicy notes are in perfect harmony. This wine is deep and elegant. Vigorous yet delicate tannins. A balsamic undertone and long persistence.
Reviews
~Gambero Rosso: 2 Glasses
A juicy and rather tannic red with redcurrant and licorice aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, chewy tannins, and a flavorful finish. From organically grown grapes. Give it time to soften. ~91 James Suckling (v.2019)
