About the Wine

Altus is located on the highest point of the Côtes de Bourg AOC and over-hangs the Gironde Estuary. The vineyard is located in a blessed terroir, and here is where the Merlot and Malbec thrive and achieve this outstanding wine.

A "full and flavorful wine" just like James Suckling called it, made with 95% Merlot and a little splash of Malbec, crafted by the "Malbec man" is the perfect recipe to create an amazing value, high-quality and luscious Bordeaux.

Dominique Raimond, also known as the “man who makes Malbec sing”, is the proud owner and winemaker of Château Montfollet. This outstanding family-owned artisanal winery is located in the heart of Blaye and Cotes de Bourg appellations. Two of the greatest value Bordeaux wine regions. The vineyards are placed in an outstanding terroir on the slopes of red clay and limestone, overlooking the Gironde estuary, just in front of the prestigious Grands Crus de Margaux. The 148-acre vineyards are managed under sustainable practices and were recently certified with HEV Level 3.

Dominique, born and raised in Bordeaux, comes from a legendary family of vignerons. He’s an emblematic and very well-known winemaker in the region, and president of Châteaux Solidaires, a cooperative founded in 1937, that includes 10 properties in Côtes de Bordeaux, whose main purpose is to transmit the magic of this region to all consumers. The wines from Montfollet are carefully vinified at Châteaux Solidaires, where the winemaking area and cellar are equipped with top-notch and innovative technology, in order to produce extremely high-quality wines.

Little by little, the family name Raimond has gained a recognized position in Bordeaux’s wine industry, and today, his wines from Château Montfollet and Puy d’Amour have achieved global recognition and high accolades among some of the most important wine critics in the world.

Aging: 12 months in French oak new barrels.

Tasting Notes: 95% Merlot, 5% Malbec. An intense black color, a very complex nose with aromas of black fruit, cocoa, vanilla, and spices, a powerful and full mouth with silky tannins, and a very aromatic finish boosted by notes of candied fruit and toasted bread.

Reviews

Lots of blackberry and blueberry with some wet earth and chocolate. Full and flavorful. Juicy and chewy tannins. Flavorful finish. ~91-92 James Suckling.
