About the Wine

Franco Boasso has quietly become one of Serralunga d'Alba's most reliable producers — traditional pricing, no hype, just serious Barolo from some of the commune's best-regarded vineyards. The family farms plots in Gabutti, Margheria, and Lazzarito, among others, and keeps the operation small and focused.

This is the Margheria Riserva — a single-vineyard bottling from one of Serralunga's respected parcels, aged an additional year beyond the standard Barolo requirement. Serralunga sits on the eastern edge of the Barolo zone, where iron-rich soils push Nebbiolo toward structure, power, and longevity. Margheria tempers that traditional Serralunga muscle with aromatic lift and a more generous midpalate — the wine leans slightly toward red fruit rather than dark, with refined tannins and a silken texture.

The 2020 vintage delivered beautifully approachable Barolo — well-balanced with great aromas and full of flesh and fruit concentration. The growing season was hot with ample summer water, producing wines more generous and open than the structured 2021 or the austere 2019. This is Barolo you can pull tonight and enjoy, though it will hold for years.

Tasting Notes

Dark cherry, plum, dried rose, licorice, and mineral notes. Sweet tart cherries with cinnamon, star anise, and dried lavender. Full body, refined tannins, silken texture, long elegant finish. The fruit leans slightly to the red side of dark with a more generous, aromatic profile.
