Reviews
This is a solid Margaux with blackberries, blackcurrants, and undertones of fresh tobacco and wet earth. It’s full and layered with beautiful energy and structure. Tight at the end, as it should be. Try after 2025. ~94 James Suckling.
The nose is elegant, racy, and fruity and offers gourmandize, a fine richness, and an unctuosity of the fruit (in the background). It reveals notes of pulpy Boysen berry, pulpy/juicy raspberry, small notes of small crushed red berries associated with small touches of violet, strawberry as well as fine hints of camphor, mild tobacco, and a subtle hint of ripe hazelnut. The palate is fruity, elegant, delicate, beautifully defined, and precise and offers a racy minerality, tension, and an acidulous frame. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, juicy raspberry, small notes of cassis associated with small touches of violet, cornflower, caramelization/chocolate, racy minerality as well as a subtle hint of lily, nutmeg, and crushed hazelnut. Good length. ~93-94 VertdeVin.
Rich and explosive, the 2019 Marquis de Terme sure makes a statement. A rush of inky dark fruit hits the palate, followed by sweet floral and spice notes that develop with a bit of coaxing. More than anything else, 2019 is a wine of real density and succulence. This is an impressive wine. ~92-94 Vinous Media.
The Sénéclauze family, with Ludovic David as director, are working extremely hard to refine and finesse the wines from this property and it is starting to show its full potential. This 2019 has tons of anthocyanins giving a rich purple color, followed by licorice, sage, and baked blackberry aromatics on the nose that make the whole experience extremely welcoming. There's austerity as the tannins pull things inwards through the palate with a trace of astringency on the finish, just the right level to suggest a good long life ahead. Impressed with the density and the crushed menthol on the finish. Tasted twice three weeks apart. ~93 Decanter.
Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate ocher edge. Fine dark berry fruit, delicately underlaid with herbs and spices, fresh cherry fruit, delicately reminiscent of orange zest. Medium complexity, blackberry confit, integrated tannins, good freshness, some nougat on the finish, mineral aftertaste. ~92 Falstaff.
The 2019 Château Marquis De Terme should be another outstanding wine from this terrific estate. Deep purple, with a great nose of blue fruits, violets, new leather, and spicy wood, it's medium-bodied, has beautiful overall balance, plenty of ripe tannins, and good acidity, all making for a brilliant Margaux that's going to benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for 15 years or more. ~90-92 Jeb Dunnuck.
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Marquis de Terme slips sensuously out of the glass with notes of plum preserves, baked black cherries, and blackcurrant pastilles plus wafts of cinnamon toast, allspice, underbrush, and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers wonderful vivacity and freshness, with a firm, grainy texture framing the bright, pure black fruits, finishing earthy. ~90-92 Robert Parker.
