About the Wine

North of the Saint Emilion appellation, on the right bank of the Barbanne River, you’ll find Saint-Georges, a little 4-acre charming vineyard, that is located next to the vineyards of Montagne-Saint-Emilion, Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion, and Lussac-Saint-Émilion. Together they make up the outer reaches of the Saint-Emilion vineyard. This highly desirable vineyard with a majestic landscape was acquired by Jacques Rambeau in 2010.

Vignobles Rambeaud has vineyards in some of the most special appellations in Saint Emilion in Montagne Saint-Emilion and Saint George. Their main cellar is located 1 mile from Petrus and Cheval Blanc, and 2 miles away from Figeac (talk about special locations!).

Driven by goals of innovation, authenticity, and sustainability, Rambeau “listens to nature” and “adapts to its particularities by remaining attentive to it at all times.” Pride in the terroir is what moves them forward, as their land is full of Pomerol’s signature “crasse de fer”, which is the local name for the iron-rich clay found in the soils. This distinct clay is thought to be responsible for the notable aromas and texture found in the region's Merlot.

Notable for more than just its terroir, 2018 Clos Albertus "La Garenne" Saint-Georges-Saint-Emilion also hails from a distinguished vintage". “The wines tend to be rich in fruit, softer in mouthfeel with less tannin and acid,” writes Decanter. Vinous Media gave this vintage a stunning 96 Point review, stating, “The 2018 Right Bank wines are opulent, flamboyant reds. It is a very strong vintage that falls just short of being truly epic.”

Earning 92 points from James Suckling , this wine is living up to its hype. Perhaps this is in part due to its atypical, but high-quality blend: 33% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Franc, and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon. Touted as a wine of passion and precision, it's subtle yet “bursting with pleasure” and has been called “truly luxurious.” Indeed a luxurious wine that will please even the most demanding palates.

Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 33% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Franc, and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon. A luxurious wine, that opens with bright juiciness and notes of fresh blackberry. Firm tannins lead to a creamy finish.

Reviews

Aromas of blackberries with hints of stone and limestone follow through to a medium body with chewy tannins and a fresh, creamy finish. Drink after 2023. ~92 James Suckling
