About the Wine

In 2003, the visionary Enrique Foster invited Mauricio Lorca to join him on an extraordinary journey, guided by their shared love for Malbec. Mauricio Lorca, a brilliant winemaker, took the reins of production, and the rest is history. Under their watchful eyes, the winery in Perdriel, Luján de Cuyo, has become a hub of innovation, embracing new winemaking techniques and sustainable practices.

As one steps into Mauricio Lorca's winery in Perdriel, they are greeted by lush Malbec vines, a testament to the deep-rooted passion for this noble grape. The winery itself blends modern aesthetics with classical charm, surrounded by enchanting gardens designed by a landscape artist. The backdrop? The majestic Andes Mountain range, a paradise on earth.

The winery holds ISO 22.000 certification for its production process. Their organic wines adhere to the highest organic production standards, and their sustainability efforts have earned recognition both nationally and internationally.

Now, the Rockstar behind the wines: Mauricio Lorca, a true winemaking prodigy, has an illustrious career that began under the tutelage of legendary figures like Nicolas Catena, Paul Hobbs, and José Galante (aka the father of modern enology in Argentina). At just 24 years old, he became the head winemaker of Luigi Bosca. His global adventures in the world's finest vineyards reinforced his belief in Mendoza's potential to create world-class wines.

Opal, known for its unique light-reflecting properties, is a captivating gemstone. Opal wine, inspired by this gem, has a magnetic quality in every sip, creating lasting memories for those who dare to taste it.

Mauricio Lorca's creative revolution in 2003 gave birth to Opal wine. It's a premium, unoaked wine sourced from high-altitude vineyards with low grape yields per plant. This wine line marks the winery's first venture into crafting high-quality unoaked wines, showcasing Mauricio Lorca's dedication to innovation and exceptional quality.

Aging: No oak aging.

Tasting Notes: 100% Malbec. This wine is a true reflection of its origins, showcasing the unique character of the land where it's grown. It has a beautiful deep red color and a delightful aroma with hints of spices like pepper and mint, along with some floral notes. When you taste it, you'll find a wine that's both full-bodied and elegant, offering a smooth and lingering experience.

Reviews

The vineyard that Mauricio Lorca planted in Vista Flores in 1999 is today the main source of grapes for his best reds. The Opalo line also has no wood, and that fact means that there is no "noise" in these wines, only the fruit character that appears especially juicy here. A malbec full of notes of fruits, spices and flowers in a deep and balanced body. One of the best wines from this line that we have tried, and an impressive price-quality ratio. ~94 Descorchados
