In the early nineties, after raising his children, and having spent his career in the maritime industry, Francis Poirel began looking to purchase a wine-making estate and fulfill his dreams of becoming a wine-maker. His goal was to take his place next to his wine-making friends and idols who were at the forefront of a “new wave” of wine-making which had rapidly spread in France during the 1980’s and 90’s. These were passionate wine-makers who recognized that the future of modern wine-making was in fact a return to their roots and a more holistic approach to growing wine. Only by doing this, they believed, would the regional wines of France regain their deserved place in a world filled with a sea of mass-produced, homogenous tasting wine. There is no added sugar to this wine, and no acidification. It takes approximately 1 vine to yield 1 glass of this nectar. Truly a nectar!
This late release is showing beautifully, with glazed peach and pear notes lifted by hints of orange zest, green tea and honeysuckle. Fleshy, unctuous and yet still fresh on a finish rounded off by a burnished edge. Drink now through 2018. 250 cases imported. 94pts WS

This winery did the hard work aging these delectable bottles so you don’t have to! Since 1895, the Cazes clan has tilled vineyards in and around Rivesaltes--now growing to 220 organically farmed hectares--that yield some of the best expressions of Rivesaltes terroir on the market!
About the wine
The Cazes family worked this land for 50 years before releasing their first wines, and they’ve only gotten better with each vintage since! Now certified biodynamic for a full twenty years, the estate is a picture of dedication to the best agricultural practices and you can taste it. A rare treat, this aged muscat wine has developed secondary and tertiary qualities of honey and caramel laced with orange rind, dried apricot, vanilla, cinnamon, clove, and allspice. The fermentation is halted with the addition of high proof grape spirit, so the remaining sweetness is natural from the grape.
The Batlle family has been growing grapes for five generations in Maury, home to Roussillion’s famous vins doux naturels. The domaine is superbly situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees at the foot of a Cathar castle in the upper Agly Valley. Their vineyards which sit on wild, and rocky terraces, are composed of black schist formed in patches between the white limestone cliffs that dominate the horizon. Surrounded by 80 hectares of vineyards planted to Grenache Noir, Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, as well as Syrah and Carignan, they make powerful, well-structured and deeply aromatic IGP Côtes Catalanes and Côtes du Roussillon Villages. Their intense Maurys are said to be among the best of the region. To make this sweet wine, fermentation is stopped in the middle of the ‘solid’ phase in mid fermentation by adding neutral alcohol to capture the natural grape sugars. Alcoholic maceration continues for another three weeks.
The sun of the Roussillon wine region is fully expressed through intense ripe fruits aromas. Made from 40+ year old Grenache vines, the wine is brilliant in color with deep garnet reflections. A complex nose with aromas of blackberry, fresh fig. After a few years, notes of cocoa develop as well. Beautiful mouth and good structure.
